Mom's Day 2013
On Saturday, April 13, family members and relatives came
down to the chapter house to celebrate our annual Mom’s Day. The scholarship
presentation was hosted by Alpha Kappa Educational Foundation member, Keith
Wedge, and faculty advisor, Jim Murphy. Over $30,000 was given out to members
of Alpha Kappa for excellence in academics and house involvement. Once the
scholarship presentation was over, members and their families enjoyed a
delicious lunch provided by our house cooks. After lunch, everyone enjoyed playing
Minute to Win It games in Wolf Hall. Thank you to all of those who came down to
visit to make Mom’s Day a success!

Pike Pig Roast
On March 16, 2013 the Pikes of Alpha Kappa put on a pig roast fundraiser during the St. Patrick’s Day parade. Set up in a vacant lot off Pine Street, pulled pork sandwiches, chips, and water were sold to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Set in a perfect position relative to the parade, hungry parade attendees frequented the Pig Roast tent and many compliments were given on how delicious the food was. When the parade was over, everyone was full, and most importantly, over $700 was raised to benefit JDRF.

The event ran from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM and over 500 people from Missouri S&T and the city of Rolla attended. After a long day or hard work, Alpha Kappa raised over $2800 from this event to help awareness for human trafficking.
February Pike of the Month
Congratulations to Matt Modrusic on being voted February Pike of the Month. Matt was nominated for this honor because of his extensive work as community service chairman, as well as his hard work at the Missouri S&T Miner newspaper. He organized the JDRF service trip to St. Louis, as well as other small events in the community. Because of Matt’s many hours dedicated to organizing the JDRF trip, Alpha Kappa was able to have a successful and well organized trip – eventually getting recognized by Pike National Headquarters.
JDRF Service Trip
February 22nd-24th, 2013
On this weekend, the men of Alpha Kappa traveled up to St. Louis, MO to help out with the annual Juvenile Research Foundation Retreat. The retreat is held in order to better educate parents’ and their children on how to manage and live with juvenile diabetes. While the parents’ attended lengthy meetings, the men of Alpha Kappa helped entertain children of all ages. They played games, painted faces, and built Legos with the children to make sure they had a great time. The older children were taken to the City Museum by a group of Pikes, and spent the entire day there. All in all, it was a fun weekend, and Alpha Kappa was honored to give its time to JDRF.
